December 2013 - News and updates from STMicroelectronics
  • 600 V trench gate field-stop IGBTs feature industry’s lowest Eoff
    • The tail-less switch-off waveforms combined with a saturation voltage as low as 1.8 V and a maximum junction temperature of 175 °C make the IGBT V series an ideal fit for high-efficiency, high-frequency applications such as welding machines, solar inverters, UPS and SMPS.
    • Tight control over parameters such as the saturation and the threshold voltage enables safe paralleling of multiple IGBTs for higher power requirements and design simplification.
  • HVLED815PF off-line LED driver with primary sensing
    • The HVLED815PF operates directly from the rectified mains with a minimum of external parts and with a high power factor (> 0.90) to provide an efficient, compact and cost-effective solution to drive LEDs.
    • A full set of design support material is available for fast and easy evaluation, including application notes and demonstration boards related to the different input voltage range standards: the 15 W European Vin, the 10 W wide range and the 9 W standard for the USA market.
  • 8-input current-limiting termination manages fast sensors and high-speed digital inputs
    • ST’s current limiter series development is driven by power consumption reduction, space savings, and robustness to EMC.
    • The CLT01-38S4 brings the high-speed dimension to this series. This octal input array – designed for programmable logic controllers – features a 400 Kbit/s input datarate and a 6.25 MHz SPI output.
    • As such, the CLT01-38S4 has proven robustness against reverse battery polarity and IEC 61000-4 surges. It is compliant with IEC 61131-2 type 1, 2 and 3 sensors, which makes it ideal for all factory automation applications.
  • L4984D continuous conduction mode PFC controller
    • The L4984D operates with a proprietary line-modulated fixed off-time control, simplifying design with a considerable BOM reduction.
    • The highly linear multiplier includes a special circuit that allows wide-range mains operation with a low THD, even over a large load range.
    • The device features low consumption and comes in a 10-pin SO compact package. It offers a low-cost solution in EN61000-3-2 and JEIDA-MITI compliant applications, in a power range that spans from a few hundred watts to 1 kW and above.
  • Extend the limits when driving inductive loads with the ACS108 800 V AC switch
    • The ACS108, first of the third ACS generation, extends its blocking voltage to 800 V, while increasing its electrical noise immunity to at least 2 kV/µs at 400 V.
    • Housed in TO-92 and SOT-223 packages, the ACS108-8 exhibits lower turn-off energy thus reducing the overvoltage generated by its load. In smart appliances and home automation, the ACS108-8 switch drives solenoids, fans, pumps and valves.
    • It improves safety, driving inductive loads without additional snubber circuits and extends the application range from 120/230 V to 277 V and 400 V AC mains.
  • Discovery kit for entry-level PowerPC® MCUs
    • The SPC560D-DIS provides an easy route to evaluating PowerPC based SPC56 MCUs.
    • It works with the SPC5 studio IDE and compiler as well as the PLS Universal Debug Engine, of which free versions are available. Software examples complete the tool chain for quick evaluation and development.
    • The kit supports the SPC56 D line, designed for applications where high-temperature operation, high reliability, and low-power standby operation are required. Real-time load diagnostics enable use in automotive lighting applications.
  • Nanopower comparators for high performance and longer operating times with smaller batteries
    • ST has extended its portfolio of TS88 nanopower comparators with dual and quad devices in space saving DFN8 (2x2) and QFN16 (3x3).
    • The TS881, TS882 and TS884 offer an ultra-low power consumption of 210 nA typical when supplied by 1.2 V, thus drawing less than half the current of competing devices.
    • Combined with a supply voltage range as low as 1.1 to 5.5 V over a wide temperature range, they offer push-pull outputs and rail-to-rail inputs making them ideal for sensor signal conditioning and battery-supplied applications, such as CO detectors and medical handheld tools.
  • New LDO voltage regulators: best cost/performance ratio in reduced space
    • Featuring low dropout voltage, quiescent current and noise rejection, the new LDK120 and LDK130 cost-effective LDOs simplify the design and increase the battery life of high-efficiency handheld and space-saving applications.
    • Available in tiny DFN 1.2x1.3 6-lead packages, the LDK120 and LDK130 feature 200 mA and 300 mA output current respectively with a typical dropout voltage of 100 mV.
    • The new series is compatible with low ESR, small form-factor ceramic capacitors and features a logic-controlled enable function plus current and thermal protection.
  • New balun boosts Nordic Semiconductor SoC transceivers
    • By 2018, the sales of Bluetooth smart accessories should reach more than 3 billion units. Working in close collaboration with Nordic Semiconductor, ST has developed the BAL-NRF02D3, an optimized balun housed in a single 0.85 x 1.4 mm flip-chip package. Integrating both matching network and harmonic filter, the BAL-NRF02D3 when implemented with nRF51822-CEAA or nRF51422-CEAA SoCs provides outstanding RF performance leading to significant power savings, while also saving over 80% of the PCB area.
  • New secure MCUNFC secure element
    • The new ST33G1M2 Flash secure MCU brings higher performance, multi-interface flexibility and comprehensive MIFARE support.
    • It functions either in a mobile phone NFC UICC, managing mobile payments alongside SIM applications and user-data storage, or as a dedicated embedded secure element in an NFC enabled smartphone.
    • Its 32-bit SecureCore® SC300™ is a secure version of the Cortex™-M3 core.
    • The ST33G1M2 features hardware accelerators for advanced cryptographic functions and combined with 1.2 Mbytes of Flash targets EMVCo and EAL5+ certifications.
    • An SPI master/slave interface enables use in non-SIM applications.
